BioFlex Laser Therapy

BioFlex Laser Therapy - Dr. Keith Tse, DC & Leanna Taggio, PT

We are the first Meditech BIOFLEX Laser Therapy pain clinic in Richmond Hill launched by Dr. Keith in 2004 and have patients from Oak Ridges, Aurora, King City & Newmarket communities. Once used exclusively with professional athletes, including our own Toronto Maple Leafs, Raptors and Argonauts, the BioFlex laser therapy system is on the cutting edge of rehabilitation technology.

For many years, traditional rehabilitation therapies — including ultrasound, interferential current and TENS — have been used extensively throughout the world to treat pain and stimulate the healing process. Unlike BioFlex, however, the effectiveness of these treatments has been disappointing as they only provide temporary symptomatic relief. These therapies are also limited in their range of applications (for example, ultrasound should not be used over bony prominences, pins, plates and in very acute injuries).

In contrast, BIOFLEX is able to influence the injury directly at the cellular level, resulting in therapeutic benefits that are more profound and generally curative.

Over 30 years of international research and clinical experience indicate that low intensity laser therapy (LILT) is a safe, non-invasive and highly effective treatment for a variety of conditions such as:

  • Low back & neck pain

  • Sciatica / herniated discs

  • Cervical or tension headaches

  • Rotator cuff injury & tears

  • Golfer’s / Tennis elbow

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Sprain / strains / tendonitis

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Osteoarthritis / Rheumatoid arthritis

  • TMJ syndrome

  • Wound healing

  • Bone fractures

So How Does Laser Therapy Work?

Low Intensity Laser Therapy (LILT) is the application of specific wavelengths of light energy over injured tissues. The energy is absorbed by light receptors (chromophores) found within the cells that initiate a series of important metabolic changes and chemical reactions. The end result is an accelerated reduction in pain, inflammation and an enhancement of the body’s natural repair mechanisms.  This means you can get back to being active and doing the things you love, faster.

A brief scientific explanation of how LILT (aka LLLT) works at a cellular level is presented by Prof. Michael Hamblin of Harvard Medical School and the Wellman Centre for Photomedicine:
