Lose Your Pain…Improving Your Financial Health

Our family just returned last week from a great trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida.  We had a great time there with two other families and seeing the joy and excitement on the childrens’ faces was priceless. During some of the downtime, whether it was on the airplane, at the airport or at the hotel, I had a chance to crack open the latest The Wealthy Barber Returns book by Canadian author David Chilton.  I remember reading his first financial management book over 15 years ago during my undergrad at the University of Waterloo.  And just like the original book, Chilton’s writing is easy to read and humorous while bringing to light simple, common sense financial tactics for the average Joe and Jane.

I highly recommend this book to everyone. But you’re probably wondering why I’m writing about this in the Meridian Wellness blog!!

Even before the economic downturn, personal finances were probably a main contributor to regular mental stress for the majority of the population.  And we know that the mind body connection is very strong.  So strong that it is quite common to see people coming in with aches and pains in their neck, shoulders and back largely as a result of the accumulated stress being held in those areas.  And so with massage therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic or naturopathic treatments we help folks manage the physical manifestation of their mental-emotional stress.

However, if one of the true causes of your pain is because of finance-related issues at home, you really need to address that and reading The Wealthy Barber Returns would be a good starting point.  I purchased mine at Costco for $11 and change.  Money well spent investing in your financial health as well as your physical health!  So fix your stress to fix your pain!
