Personalized Feeding Plan for Weight Loss
Do you crave sugar? Are you stressed and tired? Are you a grazer? Do you feel you are eating healthy and exercising but can’t seem to lose weight? Not sure what to choose on the menu when eating out? Are you a shift-worker wanting to know what and when to eat? Wondering if hormone imbalance is a cause of your weight gain? Dr. Misa can design a personalized feeding plan that is both realistic and sustainable to your current lifestyle. This program focuses on re-creating healthy eating habits and long-term weight loss. It is not a “no-carb diet”, but a moderate-carb feeding plan.
In the initial visit she will discuss with you your daily schedule (i.e. work, family, exercise times, etc.) take waist/hip/chest measurements, and collect a urine sample to test stress levels and acidity in the body. Blood work is also ordered to determine your blood type, check inflammatory status, thyroid function, iron storage, vitamin D levels, and carbohydrate metabolism.
The information obtained in the first visit is used by Dr. Misa to develop your feeding plan based on total calories and protein/carbohydrate/fat ratios to reach your goals. Your feeding plan is given to you on the 2nd visit and will contain measured amounts of food to eat and will also provide guidance on the timing of your meals. Supplements will be recommended based on the test results.
Cost: $330 (includes two Naturopathic visits and feeding plan) + $115 (Lifelabs bloodwork)
Healthy & Active Metabolic Weight Loss Program
This program is ideal for individuals who are looking for a structured eating plan and ready to weigh their food. It is a low-carb eating plan that is customized for each patient by a company called Healthy & Active (www.healthy-active.com). With this plan, you receive a clear guide that will quickly help you feel more healthy and energetic.
The unique factor of this scientifically-based nutrition program is that in addition to very specific portion control, you will be given a list of foods that boost your metabolism based on your blood type (i.e. A, B, O, AB) plus 42 different markers in your blood.
The H&A program involves three phases – the Preparation Phase (a two-day vegetable cleanse), the Main Phase (the main metabolic weight loss phase), and the Stabilizing Phase (a maintenance phase that allows for cheat days and more carbs after you have reached your goal). The Stabilizing Phase is an eating plan that you can follow for the rest of our life.
During the initial visit Dr. Misa will take a thorough health history and waist/hip measurements. You will receive a requisition for bloodwork to be performed at Dynacare. Once Dr. Misa receives the 42 different test results from Dynacare, this information is sent to Healthy & Active who will then develop a list of foods that are beneficial for your metabolism. The whole process takes about 10 days for you to receive your eating plan. Supplements will be prescribed based on the recommendations from Healthy & Active. View a Sample Plan

Laboratory Tests for Weight Loss
Food allergies and hormone imbalances may be an obstacle to weight loss. Talk to Dr. Misa about whether these test are suitable for you. These tests are not covered by OHIP and therefore not available through your family MD. They may be covered if your insurance plan includes lab tests.
Food Sensitivity Blood Test ($300 for 120 Foods, $425 for 200 Foods)
Food sensitivities are different from anaphylactic allergies and can be the cause of symptoms such as:
- Gas and bloating
- Weight gain
- Constipation or diarrhea
- Inflammatory joint pain
- Sinusitis and post-nasal drip
- Asthma & recurring respiratory infections
The entire list of foods that are part of the test can be found here. This Food Sensitivity Blood Test is suitable for both adults and children over age 1. A blood sample is taken by finger prick at the lab (Lifelabs) and results take approximately 7-10 days after the lab receives your blood sample. View a Sample Report
Hair Cortisol ($95)
Cortisol is an adrenal hormone, often called the “stress hormone” because it regulates may of the body’s responses to stress. Testing cortisol in the hair provides a longer-term view of stress-levels in the body than testing saliva, urine, or blood. Just one centimeter of hair shows the average cortisol over a month.
Cortisol imbalance may be associated with abdominal weight gain, increased muscle pain, fatigue, poor exercise recovery, mild anxiety, lowered immune function, disturbed sleep, “brain fog”, lowered thyroid function, decreased muscle mass, and inflammation.
Sample collection is easy and non-invasive. About 1 tbsp (in total) of hair from 4-5 different areas of the scalp is collected. Results take approximately 7-10 days after the lab receives your hair sample. View a Sample Report
Urine Hormone Testing ($425)
This Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones (a.k.a. DUTCH) measures hormones and hormone metabolites. Measuring both hormones and their metabolites can give a better overall picture or your hormone production. For example, it doesn’t just measure estrogen; it measures all the intermediate hormones in the biochemical pathways that are involved in the production of estrogen. The DUTCH tests over 30 different hormones and their metabolites including estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, and melatonin. Five urine samples are collected over two days and results take approximately 3 weeks after the lab receives your sample. View a Sample Report
