Functional & Advanced Laboratory Testing

Drs. Misa Kawasaki, Sophia Kotys, Negin Vaziri, ND

Finding the root cause of your symptoms often begins with the right testing. Our naturopathic doctors use advanced laboratory testing to gain a deeper understanding of your health, allowing us to create personalized, evidence-informed treatment plans based on objective data—not guesswork.

Depending on your health concerns, testing may include comprehensive blood work through LifeLabs, metabolic health assessments, hormone testing (including thyroid, cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone), insulin resistance screening, fatigue investigations, food sensitivity testing, salivary hormone testing, GI-MAP® comprehensive stool analysis, and omega-3 fatty acid testing.

Whether you're struggling with fatigue, weight management, digestive concerns, hormone imbalances, menopause, fertility, or chronic health issues, advanced testing can help identify underlying imbalances and track your progress throughout treatment.

Our goal is to provide clear answers, individualized recommendations, and a roadmap to help you achieve long-term, sustainable health.

*Only consultations with our NDs are billed as Naturopathic Visits. Please check with your insurance company to verify if they cover lab tests ordered by Naturopathic Doctors.

IgG Food Sensitivity Testing

Food sensitivities can be difficult to identify because symptoms may appear hours or even days after eating a particular food. Our naturopathic doctors use IgG food sensitivity testing through Rocky Mountain Analytical to help identify potential food triggers that may be contributing to chronic symptoms and inflammation.

The test is completed through a simple blood sample that measures IgG antibodies produced in response to specific foods. The results provide insight into which foods may be creating an immune response, allowing our naturopathic doctors to develop a personalized elimination and reintroduction plan. Rather than removing foods unnecessarily, testing can help guide a targeted approach to nutrition while ensuring a balanced and sustainable diet.

You may benefit from IgG food sensitivity testing if you experience:

  • Bloating, gas, abdominal discomfort, or digestive upset

  • Constipation, diarrhea, or symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

  • Acid reflux or indigestion

  • Skin concerns such as acne, eczema, or unexplained rashes

  • Chronic bronchitis and asthma symptoms

  • Sleep apnea caused by sinus congestion

  • Chronic inflammation or joint discomfort

  • Headaches or migraines

  • Fatigue or low energy

  • Brain fog or difficulty concentrating

  • Difficulty managing weight despite healthy lifestyle habits

  • Persistent symptoms that have not improved with dietary changes

Identifying potential food sensitivities can provide valuable information about how your body responds to certain foods and help create a personalized nutrition plan to support digestive health, reduce inflammation, and improve overall well-being.

Female Salivary Hormone Testing

Hormone balance plays an important role in energy, mood, metabolism, sleep, menstrual health, and overall well-being. Our naturopathic doctors use female salivary hormone testing through Doctor’s Data to gain a clearer understanding of your hormone patterns and identify potential imbalances that may be contributing to your symptoms.

The Basic Hormone Profile and the Comprehensive Hormone Profile are performed with Doctor's Data in Oregon.

The test is completed conveniently at home by collecting saliva samples at specific times throughout the day. This allows for measurement of the body’s bioavailable (active) hormone levels, including estrogen, progesterone, and cortisol, as well as an assessment of hormone fluctuations throughout the day. These results provide valuable information that helps our naturopathic doctors create a personalized treatment plan based on your unique hormone profile, symptoms, and health goals.

You may benefit from female salivary hormone testing if you experience:

  • PMS symptoms, including mood changes, breast tenderness, bloating, or painful periods

  • Irregular, heavy, or painful menstrual cycles

  • Perimenopause or menopause symptoms

  • Hot flashes and night sweats

  • Fatigue, low energy, or difficulty recovering from stress

  • Sleep difficulties or waking during the night

  • Mood changes, anxiety, or increased irritability

  • Brain fog or difficulty concentrating

  • Weight changes or difficulty managing weight

  • Low libido or changes in sexual health

  • Symptoms of hormone imbalance despite “normal” routine blood test results

Understanding your hormone patterns can provide important insights into the underlying causes of your symptoms and help guide a personalized approach to support hormone balance, energy, stress resilience, and long-term health.

GI-MAP® (Microbial Assay Plus)

Your digestive health plays an important role in your overall wellness, influencing energy levels, immune function, inflammation, mood, and nutrient absorption. The GI-MAP® (Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus) is an advanced stool DNA test that provides a detailed analysis of your digestive tract to identify potential imbalances that may be contributing to your symptoms.

The test is completed conveniently at home by collecting a small stool sample, which is then analyzed in a specialized laboratory. Results provide information about gut bacteria, parasites, digestive function, inflammation markers, immune activity, and other factors that influence gastrointestinal health. This allows our naturopathic doctors to create a more targeted, personalized treatment plan rather than relying on trial-and-error approaches.

You may benefit from GI-MAP® testing if you experience:

  • Bloating, gas, or abdominal discomfort

  • Constipation, diarrhea, or irregular bowel movements

  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms

  • Food sensitivities or difficulty tolerating certain foods

  • Heartburn, reflux, or digestive discomfort

  • Unexplained fatigue or low energy

  • Skin concerns such as acne, eczema, or inflammation

  • Chronic inflammation or immune-related concerns

  • Difficulty managing weight ("belly fat") or metabolic health

  • Nutrient deficiencies or concerns with nutrient absorption

  • Persistent digestive symptoms despite dietary changes

By understanding what is happening within your digestive system, GI-MAP® testing can provide valuable insights to help restore gut balance, improve digestion, support nutrient absorption, and guide your long-term health strategy.

Research overwhelmingly indicates that gut health impacts overall health. The gut microbiome plays a critical role in mediating the effects of diet and other factors on digestive, immune, metabolic, skin, brain, and neuroendocrine health. Results allow practitioners to personalize gut healing protocols that optimize overall health. Get to the root cause of your chronic conditions with GI‑MAP.
